About Me

CHOOSING REIKI

My Story...

Holistic was a word I'd often heard but never took the time to define. When I finally looked up its meaning, I was on a personal search for alternative treatments to manage my PTSD. In my search, I discovered Reiki therapy, described as an effective, holistic option for treating the symptoms of, and in various cases even eliminating, PTSD.

As it pertains to medicine, holistic is anything "characterized by the treatment of the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the physical symptoms of a disease." Reiki therapy is a recipient-responsive healing technique by which the natural healing processes of the patient's body are activated to restore physical and emotional well-being through the use of Reiki.

What is Reiki?

The word Reiki is of Japanese origin. It loosely refers to the "spirit-energy" or "life-force"  inherent in all. The practice of Reiki refers to specific spiritual disciplines and practices of stillness and mindfulness that facilitate tuning into this pre-existing energy or force. Reiki Usui further specifies methods and practices for healing created, implemented and taught by a Japanese man named Mikao Usui in 1922.

How does it work?

Reiki therapy, as offered by practitioners, is an invitation, first and foremost; an invitation offered to and accepted by a recipient. Practitioners of Reiki facilitate the process of and support clients in tuning into, activating and/or amplifying their own, inherent capacities for healing. This is achieved through light touch or hovering of the practitioner's hands. Reiki therapy can be received in-person or remotely. The use of Reiki is safe, gentle, non-invasive and holistic, facilitating balance and restoration throughout the physical, mental and emotional experience. It can alleviate symptoms or may sustainably clear out conditions altogether. Truly everything from physical ailments to behavioral patterns can be treated and relieved with long-term benefit from the regular use of Reiki.
